How to Pack for Pallet Rack Beam?

Our company specializes in manufacturing heavy duty racking with beams in a variety of sizes and types. In addition to high production standards, we also have specific packaging requirements. Today, we’d like to discuss the packaging of our beams.

For loads under 2.5 tons per layer, heavy duty three-claw crossbeam claws are sufficient. For 40HC container, a pallet typically holds 108pcs beams, while for 20GP container, a pallet typically holds 96pcs beams, based on a full pallet. We first place two retractable pallet legs on the ground, then stack the powder coated crossbeams one by one on these legs. Once the stacking reaches a sufficient height, we wrap the claws at both ends with large cardboard to prevent deformation from collisions during transport.

After wrapping the cardboard, the beams are then wrapped in several layers of stretch film. Finally, iron strapping is used to secure the beams to the pallet to prevent them from falling apart. This completes the packaging of the beams. In addition to the standard three-claw beams, we also offer heavy-duty beams that require a layer load of 3 tons or more per layer. In these cases, we provide customers with heavy-duty four-claw beams. These provide a better layer load and a more stable overall structure. Compared to three-claw beams, four-claw beams carry fewer beams per pallet, typically 75 per package. Aside from the smaller quantity, the rest of the packaging steps are the same as for three-claw beams.

The dimensions of the packaged beams are usually 1 meter wide, and the height depends on the container type. If it is a 40HC container, it will be 1.2 meters high, and if it is a 20GP container, it is about 1 meter high. As for the length, it is even simpler, which is the length of the racking plus the width of the two  claws.
