As a professional manufacturer of racking systems, in addition to supplying standard heavy duty racking to our clients, we occasionally provide corresponding protective devices tailored to their specific requirements. The primary objective of these measures is to prevent forklift operators from accidentally colliding with the racks during their operations.
First and foremost, the most common accessory is the column guard, designed specifically to protect the uprights. We offer several specifications for these guards, including both U-shaped and L-shaped varieties. Typically, they have a thickness of 3.0mm and a standard height of 300mm. Column guards are generally installed on the side facing the aisle; consequently, the number of column guards typically corresponds exactly to the number of upright frames.
Next, we will introduce the protective device for the upright frames: the frame guardrail. These are typically installed at the ends of each row of racking system. Therefore, in the case of a single row of racking, the length of the guardrail usually corresponds to the depth of the racking system itself; while the height is customizable, we typically recommend a height of approximately 500mm for our clients. For double-row racking—commonly referred to as “back-to-back” racking—the guardrail length is calculated by summing the depths of the two racking units plus the width of the row spacer. For instance, if the standard racking depth is 1000mm and the row spacer measures 300mm, the resulting guardrail length would be 2300mm.
All racking system include corresponding safety features, and their colors are fully customizable. Typically, clients opt for yellow—a highly conspicuous color—for safety components such as guardrails and corner protectors. Some clients even request a yellow-and-black color scheme to ensure maximum visibility and attention-grabbing effect.
